Google+ Now Open to Everyone

After being invite-only for nearly three months, Google+ is opening up to everyone.

Writing on its authorized company blog about the 99 improvements that have been made to the product since launching, Google’s Vic Gundotra wrote, “We’re ready to move from field trial to beta, and introduce our 100th feature: open signups.”

Today’s update also comes with gigantic improvements to Google+ Hangouts, including the capability to use them on Android devices (version 2.3 and higher). It also includes search, which is a hybrid of content shared on Google+ and results from around the web. “Just type what you’re looking for into the Google+ search box, and we’ll return relevant people and posts, as well as popular content from around the web,” Gundotra wrote.

Google+ invites were in high demand when the service first launched in July, and the service attracted 20 million visitors in its first month. Since then, however, the service seems to have lost some of its luster, with a controversy around brand pages fanning the flames.

Would Facebook to be blocked in Pakistan?

The Lahore High Court Justice Sh Azmat Saeed on Monday ordered ministry of information and technology to block access to all websites in Pakistan especially “Facebook”, spreading religious hatred on internet and to submit a compliance report by October 6. The judge, however, made it clear that no search engine including “Google” would be blocked.

The court issued this order while hearing a petition seeking a permanent ban on the access to “Facebook” for hosting competition featuring blasphemous caricatures.

The petitioner said that the Islamic values are being derogated in the name of information that is hurting feeling of billions of Muslims around the world.

Germany Bans Facebook ‘Like’ Button

Citing violations to the countries strict privacy laws, the Independent Center for Privacy Protection (ULD) demanded to remove all Facebook ‘like’ plugins in the German state of Schlewsing-Holstein. The ULD stated that the Facebook ‘like’ plugin infringes on the Telemedia Act and the Federal Data Protection Act as Facebook transfers data back to the US. Also, according to Thilo Weichart, employee of the the data protection in Schleswig-Holstein, the plugins illegally tracked users’ web habits.
The ULD stated: “The ULD expects all website operators in Schleswig-Holstein, that they immediately cease the data cascading over her to-use Facebook in the U.S., by disabling the appropriate services. This is not done until the end of September 2011, the ULD will take further measures. and that the maximum height is fine for violations of the TMG at 50,000 €.”
